SEED GROWERS REVIEW 2013 OVFS, APPROVE DONATIONS
Directors of the Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association approved several donations to agricultural organizations and the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario when they met in Kemptville recently. It was their first full meeting following the 2013 Ottawa Valley Farm Show held in March and most of the agenda was occupied with comments about the show and suggestions for the 2014 edition. (The Seed Growers organize and sponsor the annual Farm Show).

SEED GROWERS ENDORSE POSITIVE PROGRAMS AT 2013 FARM SHOW
At its recent regular meeting, the Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association, which has sponsored the farm show for the past 86 years, decided to help celebrate this year's 100th anniversary of 4-H Canada and to promote "Agriculture More Than Ever" (AMTE), a program devised by Farm Credit Canada.

The Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association has decided to contribute $15,000 to the Hay East campaign which is working to alleviate a feed shortage in Renfrew County and other parts of Eastern Ontario brought on by the recent summer drought.

At their recent regular meeting, directors of the Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association voted to donate $50,000 to help with ongoing infrastructure improvements at the Kemptville Campus of the University of Guelph.

OTTAWA MAYOR TO OPEN 2012 FARM SHOW
Mayor Jim Watson will officially open the 2012 Ottawa Valley Farm Show March 13, the 85th anniversary of the event which debuted in Renfrew County as a rotating seed exhibition. Watson will officiate March 13 at 12 noon during the first show to be held at the city's new CE Centre on Uplands Drive.

HEATHER METCALFE-GRIFFITH RETURNS AS 2012 OVFS ARTIST
After contributing an impressive commemorative painting to last year's Farm Show auction, Heather Metcalfe-Griffith has been invited back as guest artist at the 2012 show. This year's offering from Heather is a cool winter landscape, a scene typical of Eastern Ontario farm country. She calls it "Crisp Winter Scene"; it measures 30 x 24 inches.

2012 SEED JUDGING TO BE HELD OFF-SITE
For the first time, annual seed judging for the 2012 Ottawa Valley Farm Show March 13-15 will be held off the show site to facilitate the move-in process and make participation less complicated for judges and those delivering entries.

2012 OTTAWA VALLEY FARM SHOW COMING TOGETHER AT NEW CE CENTRE
Two major milestones for the Ottawa Valley Farm Show will be celebrated with the 2012 edition set for March 13-15. It's the 85th anniversary for the OVFS, and for the first time in more than 50 years, the OVFS will be presented in a new location, the CE Centre across from the Ottawa International Airport, a move made necessary by redevelopment of Lansdowne Park, the show's former Ottawa home.

FARM SHOW OPTS FOR NEW OTTAWA EXHIBITION CENTRE
SEED GROWERS TAKE ON TOP HALL OF FAME SPONSORHIP

Ottawa Valley Seed Growers agreed during their annual meeting July 25 to hold at least the 2012 edition of their Ottawa Valley Farm Show at the proposed new Capital Exhibition Centre at Ottawa International Airport.
In other business, the Seed Growers voted to become Patron Sponsors of the Ontario Agricultural Hall of Fame, an institution they've continuously supported with nominations and donations.

SEED GROWERS DISTRIBUTE AWARDS TO 4-H, CHEO
Much of the proceeds from the successful annual non-profit show are returned to the agricultural community through various grants to worthy organizations such as 4-H which receives free exhibit space, as well as booth curtaining and carpets, through the OVSGA. So far this year, the Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association has awarded close to $10,000 to Eastern Ontario 4-H activities both as prize money and as program funding.

FARM SHOW VISITORS ELIGIBLE FOR TOP PRIZES
Ottawa Valley Seed Growers director Barry Dean is in charge of door prizes at the 2010 Ottawa Valley Farm Show March 16-18 at Lansdowne Park, and he has lined up some beauties. Every visitor stopping at the Farm Show ticket booths will be eligible for the draws to be conducted at 3 pm on the last day of the show.

The Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association firmed up its continued support of 4-H programs in Eastern Ontario by finalizing participation of the rural youth organization in the 2010 Ottawa Valley Farm Show. Special guest at the 2010 official opening March 16 at 12 noon will be Jessie Groniger, 21, of Carlsbad Springs, serving this year as one of five provincial 4-H ambassadors.

Several Eastern Ontario agricultural societies are expected to be among parties represented when the Ottawa Valley Seed Growers, who sponsor the Ottawa Valley Farm Show, disperse 80-90 good quality livestock gates Oct. 5.

OVSGA INVESTS $100,000 IN DAIRY RESEARCH CENTRE
The Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association has decided to spark the local fundraising campaign towards a $750,000 robotic dairy research centre at Kemptville Campus of the University of Guelph with a $100,000 gift. The money will be funneled into the project through the Kemptville College Foundation.

Ontario Federation of Agriculture president Bette Jean Crews will officially open the 2009 Ottawa Valley Farm Show March 17 at Lansdowne Park in Ottawa. Crews will take to the podium at 12 noon to briefly describe the federation perspective on the state of agriculture in Ontario during the current economic downturn.

FCC BECOMES FARM SHOW 'OFFICIAL AG BUSINESS PARTNER'
The Ottawa Valley Farm Show (OVFS) has finalized a three-year, supporting partnership with Farm Credit Canada (FCC), the first agreement of its kind involving the 82-year-old non-profit event. Effective with the 2009 OVFS being held March 17-19 at Lansdowne Park in Ottawa, FCC becomes the "Official Ag Business Partner" of the OVFS.

BIGGEST FARM SHOW COMING UP AT LANSDOWNE PARK MARCH 11-13

The biggest Ottawa Valley Farm Show ever is set to roll out at Lansdowne Park in Ottawa March 11-13. Some 330 exhibit spaces have been booked by everyone from large machinery dealers to providers of farm financial services, to agricultural lobby groups and other rural-based organizations, said OVFS general manager Tom Van Dusen.

Canada's Outstanding Young Farmers for 2006 will officially open this year's Ottawa Valley Farm Show March 13-15 at Ottawa's Lansdowne Park. Don and Joanne Russell, who operate a dairy farm at Cobden, Renfrew County, will do the honours March 13 at 12 noon on the Concourse level of the Civic Centre. Also featured will be a brief presentation by organizers of the 2007 International Plowing Match at Crosby.

Anchored by Eastern Breeders Inc. of Kemptville, the Ottawa Valley Farm Show will feature an expanded and relocated livestock section in 2006.  The attraction will be situated at the west end of the Civic Centre Concourse, one of the farm show's six display areas at Lansdowne Park which also include the main Exhibit Hall, the Arena, the Aberdeen Pavilion, Coliseum and Outdoor Mall.

LIVESTOCK TO REMAIN OUT OF 2004 OTTAWA VALLEY FARM SHO

The Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Board of Directors have opted not to feature livestock for the second year in a row. The livestock show and sales were cancelled last year after Lansdowne management tore down the Sprung Structure; although management was prepared to make part of the old Century Building available, directors decided that space limitations, the BSE crisis and other financial factors made the return of livestock unfeasible in 2004
.

At a recent board of directors meeting, the Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association voted to contribute $20,000 to an ongoing campaign by the Kemptville College Foundation which has a goal of $100,000. At the same meeting, organizational committees were established, officially launching preparations for the 2004 Ottawa Valley Farm Show. Dates for the show are March 16, 17 and 18 at Lansdowne Park in Ottawa.

Canada's farming capital - Doug Thompson, Sam Dagg open OVFS 200

Agriculture pumps more than $400-million a year into the economy of the newly-expanded City of Ottawa, councillor Doug Thompson said as he and IPM 2001 chair Sam Dagg officially opened the 74th edition of the Ottawa Valley Farm Show Wednesday morning in the Aberdeen Pavilion. Thompson, head of council's new Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, pledged his support to the industry, which accounts for 90 per cent of the land area within the expanded boundaries of Canada's capital.
