May 1, 2008 SEED GROWERS PROVIDE SEVERAL GRANTS TO SPECIAL CAUSES The Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association was in a generous mood when it met in Kemptville April 28, approving cash grants for several organizations including the annual Beef Debut in Carp, two 4-H causes, and the Super Ex Pure Country Pavilion. March 7, 2008 INVITATION TO NEWS AND ASSIGNMENT EDITORS The 81st Ottawa Valley Farm Show will be held at Lansdowne Park March 11-13. Show times are 9 am-5pm the 11th, 9am-8pm the 12th, and 9am-4pm the 13th. This is your invitation to use the farm show as a backdrop for stories about agriculture and the people in the business. March 4, 2008 BIGGEST FARM SHOW COMING UP AT LANSDOWNE PARK MARCH 11-13 The biggest Ottawa Valley Farm Show ever is set to roll out at Lansdowne Park in Ottawa March 11-13. Some 330 exhibit spaces have been booked by everyone from large machinery dealers to providers of farm financial services, to agricultural lobby groups and other rural-based organizations, said OVFS general manager Tom Van Dusen. January 25, 2008 SEED GROWERS SUPPORT ORGANIC DAIRY, 4-H FIELD CROPS The Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association has granted $500 to the Alfred Campus of University of Guelph to help it stage an organic dairy conference April 7-8. In agreeing to provide the funds, OVSGA directors meeting in Kemptville Jan. 21 felt that supporting alternative agriculture is a worthwhile cause. August 8, 2007 BOB DICK NEW OTTAWA VALLEY SEED GROWERS’ PRESIDENT Renfrew County beef producer Bob Dick is the new president of the Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association. He’ll serve a two-year term. May 7, 2007 SEED GROWERS DELIVER SUPPORT TO 4-H PROGRAMS Eastern Ontario young people – particularly 4-H members - were the main beneficiaries when the Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association recently distributed some of the revenues from its annual Ottawa Valley Farm Show. February 20, 2007 OUTSTANDING YOUNG FARMERS OPEN 2007 FARM SHOW Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers for 2006 will officially open this year’s Ottawa Valley Farm Show March 13-15 at Ottawa’s Lansdowne Park. Don and Joanne Russell, who operate a dairy farm at Cobden, Renfrew County, will do the honours March 13 at 12 noon on the Concourse level of the Civic Centre. Also featured will be a brief presentation by organizers of the 2007 International Plowing Match at Crosby. February 13, 2007 OVSGA AWARDS $22,500 TO AGRICULTURAL CAUSES The Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association will provide $20,000 over the next three years to extend two Eastern Ontario crop research programs. January 24, 2006 SEED GROWERS GET SET FOR 80TH ANNUAL FARM SHOW Directors of the Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association met in Kemptville Jan. 22 to go over plans for their 80th successive annual seed show, a tradition launched in Renfrew County in 1927. March 21, 2006 OVFS ATTENDANCE UP, SEED SALE RAISES $5,200 Paid admissions were up by more than 300 at the March 14-16 Ottawa Valley Farm Show, an improvement management attributes to near perfect weather and a hopeful spirit. March 2, 2006 DAVID FARRAR FEATURED ARTIST AT PEDIGREED SEED SALE Carp's David Farrar is the featured artist at this year's annual Pedigreed Seed Sale for CHEO and the Foodgrains Bank. Net proceeds from David's framed, numbered print "November Day" purchased by the Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association will be contributed to the two charitable causes. February 27, 2006 EBI ANCHORS EXPANDED FARM SHOW LIVESTOCK SECTION Anchored by Eastern Breeders Inc. of Kemptville, the Ottawa Valley Farm Show will feature an expanded and relocated livestock section in 2006. The attraction will be situated at the west end of the Civic Centre Concourse, one of the farm show’s six display areas at Lansdowne Park which also include the main Exhibit Hall, the Arena, the Aberdeen Pavilion, Coliseum and Outdoor Mall. January 30, 2006 4-H TO CLOWN AROUND AT 2006 FARM SHOW With the Ottawa Valley Farm Show landing once again in Spring Break for many Ontario schools, what better way to welcome young farmers of the future than with colourful clowns cruising the corridors. January 19, 2005 OVSGA STREAMLINES ANNUAL AWARDS CEREMONY The Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association has revised the traditional format for presenting annual awards to the region’s top pedigreed seed producers. May 7, 2004 OVSGA GIVES MORE THAN $35,000 TO VARIOUS PROGRAMS Eastern Ontario youth and agricultural initiatives were the main beneficiaries when the Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association handed out some of the proceeds from its annual Ottawa Valley Farm Show held in March. February 24, 2004 OVSGA SETS ASIDE $5,000 FOR CHICKPEA RESEARCH Kemptville College researcher Jagdish Kumar was looking for financial support to help register new varieties of chickpea and identify suitable herbicides. Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association Directors responded by alloting $5,000 to the project when it gets underway. February 11, 2004 SEED GROWERS USE FARM SHOW TO SUPPORT BEEF PRODUCERS With less than six weeks to go to the 77th Ottawa Valley Farm Show March 16-18 at Ottawa's Lansdowne Park, organizers have decided to use the event to support the beef industry suffering the ongoing fallout of two North American cases of BSE. November 28, 2003 LIVESTOCK TO REMAIN OUT OF 2004 OTTAWA VALLEY FARM SHOW The Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Board of Directors have opted not to feature livestock for the second year in a row. The livestock show and sales were cancelled last year after Lansdowne management tore down the Sprung Structure; although management was prepared to make part of the old Century Building available, directors decided that space limitations, the BSE crisis and other financial factors made the return of livestock unfeasible in 2004. November 26, 2003 PRESENTATIONS MADE AT NOVEMBER 24th DIRECTORS MEETING There were two special events at the November 24th meeting of theOttawa Valley Seed Growers Board of Directors. A cheque for $20,000 was presented to Kemptville College Foundation, and retiring Ottawa Valley Seed Growers honorary director Fred Ritchie was recognized with a cake for 45 years of service. October 28, 2003 SEED GROWERS GIVE COLLEGE FOUNDATION $20,000 2004 OVFS PREPARATIONS NOW UNDERWAY At a recent board of directors meeting, the Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association voted to contribute $20,000 to an ongoing campaign by the Kemptville College Foundation which has a goal of $100,000. At the same meeting, organizational committees were established, officially launching preparations for the 2004 Ottawa Valley Farm Show. Dates for the show are March 16, 17 and 18 at Lansdowne Park in Ottawa. August 1, 2003 OVSGA CONFIRMS HALPENNY AS NEW PRESIDENT Almonte dairy farmer Bill Halpenny moved up to president when the Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association held its annual meeting recently. He'll hold the post for the next two years July 10, 2003 OVSG ANNUAL MEETING CALLED FOR JULY 27, 2003. All Directors and Committee Members are invited to attend the Ottawa Valley Seed Growers' Association Annual Meeting on Sunday, July 27, 2003. The meeting will be held at the Carleton Golf and Yacht Club, 6627 Marina Drive, just south of Manotick, Ontario. The meeting will begin at 2:00 pm, and dinner will be served at 5:00 pm. May 2, 2003 OVSGA CONTRIBUTES TO CHEO, FARM ORGANIZATIONS The Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association has confirmed a $5,000 donation to the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, money raised during the Prestigious Pedigreed Seed Sale held during the 2003 Ottawa Valley Farm Show at Ottawa's Lansdowne Park, March 18-20. March 10, 2003 Keeping, Eastman And Dodds Among Farm Show Features CJOH news anchor Max Keeping and Ottawa City Councillor Dwight Eastman will be special guests at the 2003 Ottawa Valley Farm Show March 18-20 at Lansdowne Park in Ottawa. This year's featured artist is Arnprior-based Kevin Dodds whose vintage farm and rural scenes are depicted in paintings, numbered prints and on collector plates. February 11, 2003 OVFS to Feature 350 Exhibitors, New Exhibit Area A "Country Home Centre" featuring crafts and gift items, specialty foods and other attractions will be part of the Ottawa Valley Farm Show for the first time this year. March 14, 2001 Canada's farming capital - Doug Thompson, Sam Dagg open OVFS 2001 Agriculture pumps more than $400-million a year into the economy of the newly-expanded City of Ottawa, councillor Doug Thompson said as he and IPM 2001 chair Sam Dagg officially opened the 74th edition of the Ottawa Valley Farm Show Wednesday morning in the Aberdeen Pavilion. Thompson, head of council's new Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, pledged his support to the industry, which accounts for 90 per cent of the land area within the expanded boundaries of Canada's capital.
