“The association has made it a priority to support programs for young people who are the farmers of tomorrow,” said OVSGA president Keith Matthie, noting free space and other services are provided for 4-H displays at the farm show. Speaking of the Ottawa Ex, members congratulated fellow director John Joynt of Smiths Falls who has agreed to oversee agricultural programming at this summer’s edition of the event following the passing of long-time coordinator Jack Graham. In other business, directors decided to hire a bus to take a delegation to the Ontario Agricultural Hall of Fame ceremony in Milton June 10 when former member Barclay Dick of Renfrew County will be inducted as a dedicated pioneer in the production of pedigreed seed in the province. | SEED GROWERS DELIVER SUPPORT TO 4-H PROGRAMS |

| Eastern Ontario young people – particularly 4-H members - were the main beneficiaries when the Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association recently distributed some of the revenues from its annual Ottawa Valley Farm Show.
For starters, the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario was awarded $4,000, net proceeds from the annual Prestigious Pedigreed Seed Sale held at the mid-March farm show. The amount brings to close to $70,000 the total raised from the sale over more than 15 years. |

| After hearing from Barry Dean, directors decided to give $1,500 to the annual Beef Debut for 4-H members coming up at Carp Fairgrounds June 23. The OVSGA will also deliver and provide free of charge its penning gates for the debut. Dean told members that founder Barry Stewart has bowed out of the event after 27 years.
In quick succession, the 4-H clubs of 11 Eastern Ontario counties were each granted $200; the Central Canada Exhibition got $750 for 4-H programming; the Russell Agricultural Society $300 to help mount its Teen Farmer event; the Ottawa Valley Hereford Club $300 for a 4-H beef fitting and showmanship |
