Carp's David Farrar is the featured artist at this year's annual Pedigreed Seed Sale for CHEO and the Foodgrains Bank. Net proceeds from David's framed, numbered print "November Day"  purchased by the Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association will be contributed to the two charitable causes.

David Farrar was born in England where he studied art at the Hull College of Art.  Coming to Canada in 1969, he settled in the Ottawa area where he quickly established himself as both a commercial and a fine artist. He  has divided his time between landscape painting and commercial art, and has been self-employed for over twenty years.  As a commercial artist, David has provided graphic design and illustration services for many of the local high tech companies and has also become one of Canadašs foremost heraldic artists, painting Coats of Arms for numerous commercial and private clients. Recently, David designed the medallion for the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Davidšs paintings have appeared in several Ottawa galleries and are held in a number of private collections. Most recent exhibitions have been at The Mill Street Gallery in Almonte and at the Red Trillium Studio Tour in West Carleton.

David Farrar: "Arriving in Canada from England in 1969 I was fascinated by, in awe of, and at times a little unnerved by the wide open spaces, the isolation and the size of everything. Walking the natural landscape, it is not hard to imagine that you are the first person to have ever walked this particular piece of land. Where the land is farmed the human hold looks so tentative, the trees growing at an incredible speed, threatening to quickly take back what was once theirs. Many of the farms are isolated even today, and you can still imagine the pioneers carving their existence from the rugged country. "

NOVEMBER DAY
"After the gaudy show of Fall, the landscape shows more serious colours in anticipation of the harsh days to come. The grey of the split rail fence is the colour of steel, which is indicative of the strength it will need to survive the Winter months."
