| A 75-CENT BEST BURGER? ONLY AT THE FARM SHOW |
| Come on out and enjoy a 75-cent Eastern Ontario beef burger, compliments of the Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association! And not just any burger! Topped with barbecue sauce, cheese, mushrooms and onions, and served on a kaiser bun, it's the Farm Show Best Burger, a celebration of the Eastern Ontario beef industry. As a way of demonstrating solidarity with the BSE-crippled industry, the association is offering the old- fashioned price on an A-1 burger at the 77th Ottawa Valley Farm Show March 16-18 at Lansdowne Park in Ottawa. With more than 300 commercial exhibitors occupying all available indoor space, the event is the oldest and largest agricultural trade show in Ontario east of Toronto. The "Farm Show Best Burger" promotion is being sponsored in cooperation with Aramark, Lansdowne's food services contractor, Tom Henderson Custom Meat Cutting of Chesterville, and Schneider Corp. which is donating a portion of the beef patties. The association is purchasing other patties at a special price from Henderson's, while Aramark is preparing them, along with supplying buns and condiments. When paying the $6 admission, each visitor to the show will receive a coupon worth $2 towards purchase of a $2.75 hamburger which will be sold at Grill 67, the Aramark concession at the Bank St. end of the Civic Centre Concourse. "Even at $2.75, the price is half of what it usually costs for a hamburger at Lansdowne Park, even less than what you pay at a take-out restaurant," said OVSGA director Bob Dick, a Renfrew County beef farmer. When the coupon is applied, Dick pointed out, it's likely less than making a hamburger at home. "We would like to thank our co-sponsors for helping to make this possible," said John Joynt, chairman of the OVSGA livestock committee, adding the deal doubles as a way for the Seed Growers and exhibitors to demonstrate their appreciation to Farm Show customers. "Our co-sponsors stepped up to the plate to show their support for the industry during these trying times." Recognizing the farm community is currently in tough financial straights and that the Farm Show occurs during Spring Break this year, Aramark is also discounting typical concession food items such as hot dogs and soft drinks to make meals more affordable for families. Best Burger details were finalized during a recent OVSGA directors meeting. In other business, directors decided to support chickpea research at Kemptville College with a $5,000 contribution.
