A group of Carleton 4-H members and leaders visited Waste Management Inc.'s Carp Mountain site on Friday, July 25, 2008. The trip was jointly sponsored by Gib Patterson of Emerald Links Golf Course, and by Waste Management Inc.
Following a tour of the Waste Management facility, which included a trip to the top of the mountain, the 4-H group went to Emerald Links Golf Course for lunch and then enjoyed nine holes of golf. During lunch, there was some discussion of the tour, and one member of the group summed it up very nicely when he said "It ain't just an ordinary dumpsite." In November 2006, Waste Management's Ottawa Facility site received an International Habitat Conservation Award from the Wildlife Habitat Council.
